P&O, a large shipping company, merged with the Orient line in 1959. Much film of the merging period has been lost, however Joe Clark has recovered and put together a film showcasing some of the ships used by P&O during the merge.
In 1959, P&O acquired most of the remaining shares of the Orient Line. The shipping line was then retitled the P&O - Orient Line and this title remained until 1966 when it reverted to P&O.
This film covers the period of that merger using film most of which has never been seen before.
Sailing East features footage of the following ships: Orcades, Oronsay, Orsova, Oriana, Chitral, Cathay, Chusan, Arcadia, Iberia and Canberra.
